Studio - Fringes and Edges / Opposition and Convergence

For this weeks topics, I had to focus my research on Fringes/Edges and Opposition/Convergence. I found that this weeks task was one of the hardest to work with because again I was sure how I could fit these topics within my project work. However after the looking into the topic of convergence and a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, I found a lot of inspiration that would help me within my research.

The first part that I decided to focus on was the topic of Convergence, after looking at Convergence I decided to research into the man that created the topic, which was William S. Burroughs. Whilst looking into him, I found lots of interesting facts about his life and why he created convergence, which means taking pieces from something old to create something new. After looking at his career and life, I decided to look at pieces of his work that he had created using the style of convergence. I found a piece of his work memorising because it was a selection of different pieces of text that was mashed up to create a new piece of design work. I found that this piece of design work was very inspirational, as it got me thinking about creating something like his design work for my project or my research. After this I then found an inspirational quote that was said by William S. Burroughs, which I found was a inspirational quote that was very creative, this was:

"Artists to my mind are the real architects of change and not the political legislators who implement change after the fact." -William S. Burroughs.

I then decided to create a piece of convergence myself for my primary research using resources that I had collected based on Huddersfield at my accommodation. I found that this task was very fun because I was able to design and create something new out of things that I had collected. I found that this task was very inspirational and got me thinking about how I could use this style for my own design work within my Sense of place project. I thought that I could print out photographs of New York and place them within other pieces of photography that I had taken to create something new, I thought that this would create an effective piece, that would catch the attention of the target audience very easily.

The final task that I did this week was to create a page that was based around the topic of Fringes and Edges. I found that this task was quite hard to look at, however after I had been to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park I found that this topic was a lot easier to look at because I decided to look at an artist that had an exhibition at the YSP. I found that his work had lots of fancy edges and fridges. For this I page, I thought could look at piece of his work that was displayed at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Whilst looking at the Rob Ryan, I found a inspirational quote that I found was very inspirational to me, which was:
"Listen to the World."-Rob Ryan

Studio - Materials / Form / Sound

For this weeks task I had to look at the topics of Materials, Form and Sound. For this weeks topics, I found it quite difficult to focus on the topics because I wasn't sure what to look at and would be very relevant to my project that I was going to be creating. For this weeks focuses, I found that the easiest topic for the week was materials because I was able to have a understanding of what materials I could look at using for my project. I found that the hardest topic within week was form because again I wasn't sure what to research within this topic.

The first part that I did for this weeks topics was to start with the topic of materials. For this topic, I had to create a materials page using secondary research to look at the materials that would be the best to use within my project and my design work. Whilst doing this page, I had to think about the materials that would be the most useful to me, but I had to also think about materials that I could use, but I might not want to use. To create a materials page, I had to create a chart of materials and answer several questions about whether I could use them within my design work. These questions were: Is the material Cheap or Expensive? Is it Eco-Friendly? Can I work with this Material?

Once I had done this I then moved onto looking at different buildings that were looked around New York City, using the resources of Google Images and Pinterest, to create a mood board that would provide me with a lot of inspiration to look at when looking at existing building in New York City. I found that the building in New York were all different to each other, which gave me a lot of inspiration that I could look at producing something old that would relate to the old building or I could create something that was new and would work well with the new and stylish buildings.

After I had created a mood board of different architectural buildings in New York City, I decided to analyse several of the buildings by looking at the Rockefeller Centre, the Guggenheim Museum and the Frank Gehry's Beekman Tower. Whilst I was looking at these buildings, I decided to look into the styles of art that was used to create these buildings, I found that some of the building had been created using an Art Deco style, however other had parts of Art Deco within the structure and work. I found that the building based in New York were very stylish, modern and creative.

As I had found out that most of the buildings and attraction were created using the Art Deco style, I decided to look into the style even further by looking at when the style was created, and what it is was mainly used for. I found a book from the library, which told me a little more about the style. Where i was able to find out that the style was used as contemporary style, whilst I had the book I decided to look at a piece of artwork that was created using the style called Rococo in France. I found that this style of artwork was very basic, as the colours that was used within this style are very simple.

I then moved onto my primary research, whilst I was looking at the people of New York, I found that the topic sound came together with the topic of people because I decided to analyse the way of life that people in New York were living. To do this I had to think back to my time in New York City and look at the main topics that would come under people and sound. I had to look at how busy the city was, I found that whilst I was in New York City, it was extra busy however when I did go to visit the place it was a bank holiday weekend in the United States. Although I found that it was a lot busier over there, than where I am living. I then looked at sound, I had to think very carefully about what I could hear whilst I was in New York, I heard a lot of sounds from Taxis and cars hooting their horns to people talking. The final part that I decided to look at was the traffic in New York, I found that the traffic was a lot busier in New York because it where I live there isn't as much traffic.

After I had looked at the topics of people and sound in New York, I decided to compare this to the town that I am living in at the moment, which is Huddersfield. For this I decided to look at the points that I had looked at whilst in New York, however when looking at these points I found that they were very different to New York. I found that Huddersfield was less crowded and busy than New York, as people could move freely. I also found that the sound that was created in Huddersfield wasn't as loud because the only part that I could really hear was people talking, whilst they walking past me, babies crying and the odd hoot of the car horn. Another point that I noticed was that the traffic was less busier than it was in New York because there wasn't as many queue and cars on the roads like there was in New York City.

The final part that I did for this weeks topic within my primary research was to look at the different types of materials and methods to create part of my designs. The first part that I did was to create a street sign using the programme Adobe Illustrator, however the first material that I used to create this design was a pencil because I wanted to see how the design would look if the design was drawn on paper, the next part that I have displayed on the first page was my own photography that i had taken whilst I was in New York City. I then moved onto using the programme Adobe Illustrator by using the Image Trace button to vectorise the photograph to a Vector Illustration. I liked this Illustration, however I wanted to go even further with my design work and create a Vector Illustration using the pen tool, which then allowed me to add colour to the design to brighten up the Illustration, I thought that this would then catch the attention of the target audience very easily.

Once I had completed this page, I then looked at creating materials page, to do this I had to gather together different types of materials that I could use within my project from paper to fabric to soft pastels. I thought that this page was very creative and very visual because I was able to take a lot of inspiration from this page when creating my design for my project. I found that this week was OK, as it could have been better, as I found it quite hard to look at points that I could research for my Sense of Place project.

Studio - People / Movement / Navigation

For this weeks focus, I found it quite hard to look at how I could present these topics through my research, the topics I had to focus on this week was People, Movement and Navigation. The easiest topic that I found this week was Navigation because I thought about looking at the New York city map, as it was very relevant to my sense of place project because I am trying to base my project around New York, as it is my favourite place in the world. Another reason that I wanted to focus on New York is because I have recently been to New York, I found that the place was breathtaking and so different to my hometown, I also took lots of photographs that I could use within my Sense of Place project.

The first topic that I decided to look at was People, within this topic I was a little unsure about how I could present this topic through my research, however I came up with the idea of looking into how many people visit New York City between 2000 to 2013. Whilst researching into this I looked at both sides of the visitors from the people that live in New York already and the people that come to visit New York each year. After I found out information using the NYC Statistics page on the internet, I decided to take this information even further my using this information that I found about the visitors in New York by creating a graph using the programme Microsoft Excel. I found this quite challenging because I hadn't used this programme for a while, so I found it quite hard to create a grid. Although I finally produced a graph, were I noticed that there was always more people that lived in NYC than people who visit each year however I did noticed that the people that lived in NYC from 2000 to 2013 had a rapid increase in domestic people. Furthermore I then noticed that the increase in International visitors was a steady rise, which was quite difference to the people that live in New York.

After looking at the topic of People, I then moved onto looking at the topic of Movement. I found that this topic was the most challenging of the three topics that I was focusing on this week because I found it very hard to look at ideas that I could research based around the topic of Movement. Once i found idea that could research about in this topic, I decided to research into the different types of transport that is based in New York, whilst researching into the transport I also decided to look at the different look at the routes that they had for each of types of the transportation, for example I decided to look at buses, whilst researching into this I found that there were 41 bus routes in Manhattan, 31 bus routes in Staten Island, 108 bus routes and 28 express routes in Queens, 85 bus routes and 9 express routes in Brooklyn, 47 bus routes and 12 express routes in the Bronx. I found this research very interesting and very factual because it allowed me to look at the transport that is used in New York in more depth.

After I had done this I then decided to look at Animation designer called Hayley Akins, I decided to look into this designer because I found that she creates lots of animation using motion graphics and movement, which I thought was quite relevant to the topic that I wanted to research into. I also found that the style that she uses for her designs are very creative and illustrative, which I find very inspirational because the style that she has used within her work is the style that I am wanting to design part of my work like. I found that her animations where very well put together, as the animation were very smooth when played, I also thought that the colours that she had used for her animations were very relevant to the animations that she had created. I think that I am going to take inspiration from these design for my own work.

I then moved onto looking into Navigation, which was my favourite part of this weeks research because I found that the Navigation topic was quite easy to think about when looking into New York. I started off my Navigation research by looking into the map of New York, where I was able to look at the New York in more detail. Whilst looking at the New York Map, I noticed that the layout of the map was used using a grid systems which I thought was very professional, as the layout of the map would be quite easy to follow. I thought that this was a good point. When looking at the map design I also decided to look at the different types of signs that are located around New York from green, brown to blue. I thought that the signs were very handy because it would be easy to locate different attractions that were placed in the city.

I thought about looking into the street signage, as I thought that it may come in handy when designing my own artwork because I could use a street sign to locate the entrance to the LowLine. I then created a mood board about Maps, as I did have an idea of what I wanted to take inspiration from when creating my own design work. This is because I wanted to a Map for one of my final outcomes. To find inspiration for my mood board, I used several different sites to find examples of existing maps, these sites were Google Images and Pinterest. When looking at existing maps, I found that the maps were brightly coloured, which I found very attractive and eye-catching, I thought that this was very important because using bright and vibrant will be very attractive to the target audience.

I then moved onto my primary research side of the Sketch book, within this part I again focused on the same three topics that I had looked at for the secondary research. These topics were People, Movement and Navigation, I firstly started to focus on People. We recently had visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, whilst I was there I decided to look at all the topics that I was going to be looking at each week. When looking at people at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park I decided to look at people's attitude whilst at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. On this pages I looked at several Photographs that I could base the people topic around. My favourite Photograph that I chose to place into my Sketchbook was a photograph of my friend 'Elenor' because I found that this photograph showed a lot of her personality and interest within the image, as she is very lovely, polite and funny. By showing her interest of her TV Show Pretty Little Liars she has displayed the shhh sign that is shown in the opening title of Pretty Little Liars.

After I had focused on the topic of People, I then decided to move onto the Movement topic. Where I again decided to use Photographs that I had taken whilst at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, I also decided to use another piece of work that I had worked on whist in the studio in my very first illustration process and production lessons. The piece that I decided to use was build up of drawing using tracing paper to show people's movement every five minutes outside the market quarter in Huddersfield. I thought that this piece of work was good and represented the topic of Movement, as it allowed me to analyse people movement around Huddersfield. I thought that this task really helped me to focus on the movement topic because it allowed me to see the different position that the people over five minutes were seen, as the moved over a period of time.

I then moved on focus on the photographs that I had chosen to analyse whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Within this page I looked at the photographs that I had taken of a moving horse, I thought that the photograph that I had taken represented movement because when I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, this horse was a animation that feature the horse galloping, I found that the animation was very professional and very different to the other sculptures that I saw at the Sculpture Park because it was a moving design. The speed of the animation was very smooth and you were able to understand what was being featured in the animation.

I then moved onto my final topic, which was Navigation, again I decide to use the photographs that I had taken whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. However i also decided to compare the different signage that were located in New York and Huddersfield, as they are both very different from each other. I started off by looking at the different navigation signs that were located around the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, whilst I was there, I noticed that the signs were very different from each other as some of the signs were very simple and other were providing the tourist with lots of information about where to find a specific sculpture. My favourite sign at the Sculpture Park was the Poppies sign, as this was vey simple and basic, however it was very brightly coloured and easy to see, I also thought the sign was brilliant idea because it was relevant to the Sculpture that I wanted to go and see, which were the Poppies. I found that my least favourite sign was the sign in the top left because I found that the design was too simple and basic, I felt that this design wasn't very inspirational to the target audience, as I thought that the colour of the design was very dark and gloomy, to improve the design I thought that they could have add a little Illustration onto the sin like the one in the bottom right of the page.

Once I had done this I then decide to look at the different signs that were located in New York and Huddersfield, whilst looking at them both I did notice that they did some difference. The differences of the signs were the different font styles that had been used, I found that the font style that had been used for the New York Sign was better because it was easier to see, as it was very bold and stood out well. Another difference that I found was that the shape of the signs were very different. Overall I felt that the New York sign was the best because it was bold, but simple and the easiest to see and understand of the two that I had looked at.

Studio - Exploring Grids / Frames / Macro and Micro

As part of our Foundation Studio Practice project ' A Sense of Place', we were given the task of researching into different subject areas for our Primary and Secondary research. The categories that I had intended to look at was Grids, Frames, Macro and Micro. I decided to do this because it was a starting point for my research, which I could then expand on. I started with the subject of Grids, which I hadn't really learnt about before apart from using grids to create guides that I could use to structure and layout my work professionally and presentably in the programme Adobe InDesign. When looking at Grids, I firstly decided to look into who created the Grid System and look at their work that they had already created.

I found out that the master of the Grid System was known as Josef Müller-Brockmann, who was a Graphic Designer from Switzerland, who created the Grid System and produced a Grid Systems book that is all about Grids in Graphic Design and why they are so useful and important to us as Graphic Designers. After I had done this I decided to look into some of Josef Müller-Brockmann's work because I found some of his work with inspirational, as the font type that he has used for his Posters are very bold and easy to read, I think that I am going to take inspiration from his work, when producing my own design work. I felt that these two pages went quite well, after I understood what I needed to research because at the start of this project I found it quite hard to understand what I needed to produce when I was researching, however after someone had explained to me what I needed to produce it all fell into place, so the research became a lot easier to understand and complete. I think that if I was to improve these two pages, I would try to add more information about Josef Müller-Brockmann because and analyse some of his work, as this would then allow me to look into his designs in a lot more detail.

After I had looked into Josef Müller-Brockmann and his work, I then decided to look at the book that he had produced in more detail, I found the book that he had written was very inspiring because it allowed to look into grid systems even more. I decided to look at the grid systems book because it gave me more knowledge of the parts that I needed to do when creating my own artwork using Grid Systems. After I had done a page about Josef Müller-Brockmann's book, I then decided to research into Grids systems even further by looking at sources from the internet, where I came across a website called GridSystems.org, I liked this website because it has helped me with looking to grid systems that will help me when I am producing my own work. The website that I found helped me to understand how grids are used and what they are used for. I found out that the grids are mainly used for graphs and grid paper, I also found out that the programme that use grids for design are Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

Once I had finished looking at the website called gridsystems.org, I then decided to look into what grids systems are used for on the whole. I found out that grid systems were used for Maps, the London Underground, the New York Subway Map, Street Maps, Housing/Floor Plans and the game known as Sims. Whilst I was exploring into what grid systems were used for I decided to create a mood board that would allow me to look into grid systems from a visual aspect. My favourite part about this mood board is the variety of different designs that have been created using a Grid System, the mood board is my favourite part because I feel that the variety of Grid systems allow me to look into different types of grid systems that can be used, I am going to take Grid Systems into consideration when creating my own design work, I want to create a Map for one of my final outcome designs.

After I had explored into what grid systems were used for, I then decided to research into the designs in more depth by researching the two artists of the London underground and the New York Subway Map known as Harry Beck and Massimo Vignelli. I thought that this was a good step that I took after I had looked to what Grid Systems were used for because it allowed me to look into different artists that had to use Grid Systems to create there final outcomes. Whilst I was researching the two artists I decided to take a look at the work that the two artists had produced because I like to see how the design work had been presented, how the colours had been used, which font style has been used on the Map design. I think that the Grids Systems that has been used on the design allow the design to have a professional look, I think that the colours that have been used on both the London Underground Map and the New York Subway Map are very engaging, as the colours are very bright and vibrant. I feel that this is part of the Map that I am going to take into consideration for my own design work, as I think that the colour scheme that I should choose will be bright and vibrant to interest the target audience that I am going to be aiming towards, which is Tourists and Families in New York, as this would make a fun day out for the people of New York.

I then decided to focus on the topic called Frames because it was another one of the focuses during the first week of research, I felt that this part of the research was quite hard to look at because there is many different ways that you could look into frames. The first part that I decided to look at within the topic of framing is what the topic is about, why we use frames to create a high quality photograph using different objects, such as fences, rocks, people and trees. Whilst researching into framing, I found out that there is different  types of frames that could be used to create photographs using frames. My favourite part that use many objects to create high quality photographs that are very engaging as they are high quality and very eye-catching.

Once I had looked at what frames were and what the different types of frames were, I then decided to create a mood board based around frames. I think that a mood board allows to me to visualise the different types of frames that I could use to create my own photographs when looking to create my designs in the future. My favourite part about this Mood board is that I have considered to look into different types of frames that I could consider. My favourite picture on the mood board is the one that the train tracks are captured through a metal piece, I like this because the photograph that has been taken is very high quality and detailed. I think that this photograph is very different to the other photographs that I have looked at.

After I had focused on the topics of Grids and Frames, I then decided to look at the next topic that was Macro and Micro. The first part that I decided to look at when looking into the topic Macro and Micro photography was to find out what was meant by Macro and Micro photography, I found this quite difficult because I had heard of Macro Photography before, however I was a little confused about what was meant by Micro photography. Furthermore once I had started to research into the topic more the too types of photography became clearer and it was easier to understand as Macro Photography means a photograph that is taken with Macro Lens that catch detail within the photograph. However Micro photography is a photograph that catch even more detail of the object than it is with a Macro Lens. Once I had done this I then decided to look into a photographer that specialises in Macro Photography, the photographer that I decided to look at was Heather Angel. I chose to look at this photographer because I found that her photography was very detailed and high quality, which was very eye-catching, as the detail that was captured in the photograph allowed the people that would be looking at these photographs to understand what is being shown in the photograph that she has taken of.

Once I had done my secondary research, I then moved onto my primary research for the topics that I had research in my secondary, these were Grids, Frames and Macro and Micro. When looking at primary research for these topics, I found it quite hard to do this research, so to start off my primary research, I decided to look at several types of maps to look at the difference between the two and the structure and the gird system that are being used within the map designs. The first map that I decided to look at was the New York Map, I chose this map because I thought that the map was very relevant to the sense of place that I was going to be focusing my design work on. The other map design that I decided to compare with the New York Map was a map of Huddersfield Town, I chose this place because it is were I am attending University here, I also thought that this map design was a different design that I could look against the Map of New York.

Once I had looked at both Map designs, I decided to look at the designs in more detail by looking at the differences and similarities of maps, that I had chosen to look at. I found that the structure of the maps were very different to each other, as the New York Map was structured perfectly and easy for the target audience to understand. However the Huddersfield Town Map was a little harder to understand. Although I did notice that within both of the Map design that most of the attraction based in both places were located quite close together, which I thought was a good point as you wouldn't want tourist visiting the place to get lost. I finally finished off with a summary, by explaining which of the Maps were the best. In my opinion, I found that the New York Map was the best because it was well structured and wouldn't cause many problems with the target audience. The next task that I decided to do after looking at Grids was to look at the topic of frames, where I decided to crop some of my photography from New York to create a new piece of design work. I decided to do this because I wanted to experiment with the different methods that I could use to create a creative and inspiring piece of artwork, that could possibly use within my design work. Once I had cropped parts of my photograph I then used the programme Adobe Photoshop to edit my photograph using different types of effects to see, which of the design would look the best for my design work.

Once I had done this I then chose another photograph from New York to edit using the method of framing. I did this because I wanted to create a new piece of artwork. To crop my photograph, I had to use the programme called Adobe Photoshop, I used this programme because it is the best programme to create a professional and eye catching photograph that the target audience will be attracted too. After I had done this, I then decided to edit the photograph using several different effects, which were Black and White, then the Cross Hatch and Exposure effect. I found that once I had used these effects the photograph that I had edit worked very well and was very effective and would definitely catch the attention of the target audience very easily.  The next page that I decided to do in my sketchbook was again frames, however I decided to display pieces of photography that I had captured whilst at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park because I felt that this work would help me quite a lot when it came to frames and how I should capture my design work to make it more effective, so the target audience will become more attracted to the design.

The final task that I had to this week for my primary research was Macro and Micro research, which I decided to use photographs that I had taken whilst I was on a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. For this topic, I found that the topic was quite hard to look at because I wasn't sure how the topic would fit in with my sense of place, so I decided that the photographs at the YSP would work well with this topic and I would be able to take inspiration from these photographs when producing my designs for my sense of place. Overall I am happy with how my research is coming along.

YSP - Yorkshire Sculpture Park

In one of our Studio session, we went on a trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, I have visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park several times, as I like quite close to the Sculpture Park. I really enjoyed the Sculpture Park, as it has changed quite a lot since I have been to the Park. This is because there are new sculpture around the Park that I haven't seen before like the Poppies. My favourite sculpture in the park was the Poppies because it was amazing to see how they had been fitted together to create this magnificent sculpture. I found that the presentation of the Poppies were very professional and creative, as the design was very well structured. The colour of the Poppies that were red was very bright and vibrant, which is good because it allows the target audience to see the Poppies very easily.

Whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park the weekly task was to focus on the categories, Fringes and Edges and Opposition and Convergence, however I also wanted to focus on the other weekly focuses too for my primary research, as I was still struggling with the research.

GRIDS

The first part that I decided to focus on whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park was Grids, as I had already done lots of research for Grids on my secondary research by researching into Josef Müller-Brockmann. So whilst I was at the Sculpture Park, I decided to look out for the Grid Systems that had been used around the park for inspiration when designing my own artwork.

I thought that this was a perfect example of a Grid System because it has been used for a fence at the side of a walkway. My favourite part about this piece was that you could use the Grid System, as a Frame to take a good quality and professional photograph that would catch the attention of the target audience very well. I think that the Grid System that has been created is very professional. I will take inspiration from this Grid System when designing my own artwork for my final outcomes, when I produce them.

FRAMES

After I had looked into Grids at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, I then decided to look at Frames, as again I had researched parts of Frames for my secondary research, however as my project was based around the sense of place of New York, I needed to look at framing as the photographs that I had taken didn't have wasn't really framed. I thought that this was very important part for me to look at, whilst I was at the sculpture park.

The first two photographs that I chose to take was framing. This was because my friend decided to stand in the arch whilst we took a photograph of it framing around her. I thought that this photograph was a good example of framing because it was a natural frame. I thought that if I was to improve this photograph, I would try to change the colour to add more vibrant colour.

I thought that this Photo was a good example of Framing because it shows how I used the sculptures
to create a new Photo using other objects. I think that this Photo is very creative, however to improve this Photograph I would ask one of my friends to look through the gap in the sculpture to create an effective Photograph of Framing.

MACRO AND MICRO

Another category that I had to focus on, whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park was Macro and Micro Photography, I found this category quite hard because I don't have a Macro lens, which allows me to produce perfect and professional quality Photographs that will catch a lot of detail that will allow the target audience that I am aiming for to understand what is being displayed and featured in the Photography that I have taken. I also found that Micro Photography was very difficult because I hadn't really heard about Micro Photography, as I had only heard of Macro Photography. I learnt that Macro Photography was a photo that is taken and shows detail and Micro Photography is a Photograph that features more detail than a Macro Photograph.

These are some Macro and Micro photography, that I have taken whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. My favourite photographs are of the leaves as I think that the photograph on the bottom right is very good quality, as the photograph that I have captured allows me to see the amount of detail that a leaf features. My least favourite photograph is of the stone wall because I feel that this photograph doesn’t capture a lot of detail like the leaves.

However, I do feel that the colour of the Stones are very bright, vibrant and colourful, which will catch the attention of the target audience very easily. I think the Photographs that I have taken at the sculpture park are good, however I feel that they could have been better, as I could have used a Macro lens to capture the detail of the objects even more, rather than using a normal camera lens. Overall I am quite pleased with how these photographs have turned out.

PEOPLE

Whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, I decided to look at the subject of People. I found that this subject was quite hard to look at because I wasn't entirely sure what to take photographs of when it came to the subject of people. My favourite Photograph that I have taken is displayed below, it is of my friend Elenor, I know that this photograph is really relevant to the project of a Sense of Place, but I thought that the photograph would fit into my project somewhere, as it is relevant to one of my categories that I had to focus on.

I like this photograph because it show Elenor's personality, as she funny and lovely, she is also showing her interests in the photograph, I know this because she is acting a part of the opening titles in one of our favourite Tv Shows, Pretty Little Liars.

This below is another photograph that I like, which I have taken. The photograph below, which I have taken captures people that are looking at the Poppies that we went to visit at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. I think that these photographs that I have taken are good examples of people and places.

I found this category quite hard to focus on because I wasn't quite sure how I was going display People in my photography work. However, overall I was quite please with my photographs because I think that the photograph capture lots of activities of what people are doing, for example the people that are stood between the trees.

MOVEMENT

The category that I looked at next was Movement, whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park I found this category quite hard to look into because I was sure about what I should photograph that would be relevant to the subject of Movement. However I found the Movement quite interesting, to see how I could work with this category throughout my project.

Whilst I was walking around the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, I came across a horse that was on screen that moving using different slides. I liked this piece of artwork because I found that the animation was very creative and different to the other sculptures that I had seen around the Park. I thought that this animation worked well with the category of movement because it shows that the style animation is used to create a movement. The part that I thought they could improve on was the animal, as they could have looked at different animals other than the horse. I found this part quite hard to take photographs because it was moving at a quite fast pace, as I am not used to my camera I was sure how to take photograph after the other, so it took me longer than I thought to try and take presentable photographs.

NAVIGATION

The next part that I decided to look at was Navigation, I found that this subject was quite easy to focus on because I was able to look at the different signage that was used around the park, I was also able to look at the different pathways and bridges that people took to find different sculpture around the park.

Whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, I decided to look at the different signs that were placed around the Park to help navigate people to the different areas and the sculptures that they wanted to go and look at. My favourite sign that I found was the Poppy sign because this sign was very different to the other signs that I had looked at, it was also a specific sign for one of the main sculptures at the Park. I thought that this was a good idea and would take inspiration from this sign when I design my own outcomes.

The sign, which I also like is the sign that is very informative because the sign features a lot of text although this is used to help navigate people around the Park. I think that I will take inspiration from this sign because the text that has been used is very bold and stands out, which helps the target audience to read and understand the sign. I also think that I will take into consideration the colours that I use for my design because the colours that have been used on this sign above are very complimentary, which work very well together.

MATERIAL

I thought that Material was a good category that I could look at whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park because it was easy to look at the different sculpture and focus on what they were made from, I then could look at taking inspiration from the materials that are used to create my own design work for the project Sense of Place.

The first photograph that I have shown below has been created using different coloured stones that have pieced together to create something new, for example like a convergence piece of artwork. The Material that has been used for the design was very rough, however I thought this material work really well for the design because the coloured stones that have been used in this design are very bright and vibrant, which would catch the attention of the target audience very easily. I think that I am going to take inspiration from the material that has been used in this design.

FORM
It was quite hard to look at this subject because again I wasn't sure how I could feature this through my photograph that I had taken whilst at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, however I was able to find something that is quite relevant to this topic.

The photograph below shows the Poppies that were created to remember the soldiers who died and were in injured in the first world war. I found that layout of the Poppies were professional because the form that had been used to create this spectacular design worked really well to create a magnificent piece of artwork that would catch the attention of the target audience very easily.

SOUND

I wasn't quite sure, how I could look at sound, whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park because I found that this was probably one of the most hardest categories that I had to look at overall. However I was able to find something that did relate to sound.

The first photograph, shows the leaves that had fallen from the trees as it was Autumn. I found that whilst walking around the park the leaves that we walked on were crumpling beneath my feet. I like the sound of the leaves being crumpled because it is very crisp as the sound very delicate.

Another photograph that could relate to sound is the lake, as the atmosphere around the lake was very peaceful, as the sound of the water flowing was very calming and soothing. This made the place a somewhere nice to go and spend your time at.

FRINGES AND EDGES / OPPOSITION AND CONVERGENCE

Whilst I was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, I looked at the artist called Rob Ryan. Whilst I was looking at his work I decided to look at the category Fringes and Edges, I chose this category because the edges of the artwork that he has created by cutting out is very creative. I think that the work he produces overall is very creative, as he uses different fringes and edges for different pieces of work that he has created.

My favourite part about these two designs that were created by Rob Ryan are very creative, as I have never seen a designers work that is so professional and displays lots of detail with their work that can catch the attention of the target audience very quickly. I think that the about of detail that Rob Ryan has put into his work is very inspiring, as I feel that I am going to take inspiration from this work for my own design work.

I think that the subject convergence is shown int this artwork above because the designer Rob Ryan, has used different elements that have been placed into this design are very good because the design has been made up of different elements to create something new. I like this because it allows the target audience to look at the design in different ways. I think that this design is very inspirational and I am going to take inspiration from this for my own artwork.
